Spread sheet as a Constructive Tool

After attending a lesson on ICT as Constructive Tool, I knew that spread sheet is one of  the

constructive tools. I have been using this application for quite a long time without actually realizing its importance and function. The picture given below is the annual academic result of class 3A students of Lango Middle secondary School. I compiled the following data during my teaching practice.

After the class on ICT as constructive tool, I knew that Spread sheet help us to record and store the data, and it makes our work easier as the formulas can be used for quick finding of sum, difference, average, maximum, minimum values, etc.

I used Microsoft excel to record the data like information of students, attendance, marks (dzongkha, maths and english), midterm result. Those information helped me to make annual exam result very fair and in short time. It even helped me to compare the performance of midterm and annual result as shown in fig 2. Use of this program helped me to store the information for so long.

Facebook as informative tool during times of COVID19

The use of Facebook is very popular among many of us. For me, I  have been using face book for chatting and uploading my photos. But with the outbreak of covid19 in our country, I got opportunity to use face book as informative tool. The Facebook became source of information for me in following ways:

1. UNICEF Bhutan Facebook page

This page provided me with the information on how ECCD facilitators are working during the closure of the centre to keep their students engaged. This information benefited me to complete my assignment. Actually there were many stories uploaded in this page but I choose only the ones that are relevant for my assignment.

2. Prime Minister's office Facebook page

 

This Facebook page provided the daily update on what is happening during the outbreak of the pandemic. The public are benefited from this Facebook page as the information uploaded are valid and to the date.

This video is extracted from Pm's Facebook page. In the video, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering elaborates the Economic Contingency Plan with emphasis on tourism, construction and agriculture sectors.

3. Ministry of Health Facebook Page

Another Facebook page that is serving as informative tool is Ministry of Health's page. This page benefits us as it provides valid and accurate information. The health guidelines are also provided through this page.

In a nutshell, the Facebook give us many information but its all in our hand to analyze and follow the right pages for valid and accurate information.

My Reflection on ICT as Constructive Tool

The lesson on constructive tool enlightened me with an idea that digital technologies change our way of life, communication, thinking, social skills, and social behavior.  Knowing about Information and communication technology as constructive tool is new learning for me.

The use of constructive tools like word, spreadsheet, power point, moodle, face book, blog and simulation have made my learning easier. Knowing how to use and having access to those applications helped me to keep record of my work in soft copy and it enhanced my computing skill. I used my prior knowledge on power point and tried to make a simulation on a unique culture of my village. While making the simulation I realized that the knowledge I have is not enough to make the simulation, so i had to browse and ask my friend for help.

With the use of prior knowledge and new ideas (gained from watching video on making simulation and some help from friends) I was able to make a simulation on a unique culture of my village. I knew about inserting images, putting animations and changing the word alignments already. after making a simulation I learnt how to make simulation using only one slide. Inserting background music and audio record is also new learning for me.

In short, I knew that use of the applications given above made every learning experiential. Use of those applications maximizes learners participation and enhance higher order thinking. Applications make earners learn through active engagement, make them take ownership in learning and finally transform the learners to independent learner. In a net shell, the constructive tools help learner construct their own knowledge.
